Backflow Prevention

 

Backflow Prevention devices prevent the reverse flow of water from a potentially polluted or contaminated source into drinking and bathing water supply systems. 

 

Backflow is caused by cross connection. This is any point on a water system where a polluting substance may come in contact with drinking water. A Backflow Prevention device such as a one-way valve which prevents the contaminants from entering the drinking water supply.  Gold Coast Council requies Backflow devices have annual testing to ensure satisfactory operation and may at any time require the owner of a backflow prevention device to have the device inspected, tested, repaired or replaced by a licensed person entitled to do that work.

Thermostatic mixing valves assist in the safe delivery of hot water to your household or workplace.

These valves are used in a wide variety of facilities such as restaurants, nursing homes, pre-schools, and hospitals. Thermostatic Mixing Valves maintain and limit the mixed hot water to a desirable selectable temperature, assisting in preventing scalding.

 

It can take as little as 1 second to receive third degree burns if exposed to hot water between 65 and 80 degrees Celsius.

 

More than 90% of scalding incidents occur in the home. The tender skin of very young children and the slow reaction time of the elderly and the handicapped make them most vulnerable to serious hot water burns. Scalding injuries are tremendously painful, and the effects can last for years. Water at temperatures above 41°C are very painful. At a temperature of 55°C a child can be scalded in less than 4 seconds.
